When you go to the doctor or hospital and you are diagnosed with some sort of disease or condition or some sort of procedure is done on you a medical coder will translate that treatment or diagnosis into the universal medical code numbers so that it is understandable across all languages as well as for billing purposes.It is easy to find doctors that will describe medical conditions in different ways every time but if the medical code number used is the same then it’s like it’s the same situation between two people.
A career in medical coding is when a person works with these medical code numbers. Most medical coders will work for billing to ensure medical procedures and visits are billed correctly. The universal medical code numbers make things uniform and consistent across all practices.
