Medical coding and billing is currently a job field that is in high demand. The medical system across the nation seems to be showing no sign of decline in medical jobs and coding is no differ.

In short, a medical coding career is when a person works at translating the diagnosis and treatment notes of physicians and applies the standard or universal medical code numbers so that procedures and visits can be billed properly and uniformly between patients.

College is not typically a requirement to become a medical coder however. The most basic requirements to become a medical coder are a high school diploma and certification from a medical coding curriculum.

Not all medical coders are certified however. The one’s that are certified to make more money and of course every job will have its own requirements. Some positions may require certification while soe others don’t.

The American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) administers certification courses and issues CPC certifications. Even if you are looking to start a career in medical coding and you don’t need to be certified it’s worth looking into certification anyway.
